I’ve always been intrigued by Adam Kay, whom I’ve been following on social media for quite some time now. His latest creation caught my eye, as it beautifully blends symmetry, design, and technology into one exceptional piece.

Adam Kay has an impressive track record, customizing motorcycles for the past 12 years. His passion for design began during his studies at the Royal College of Art, where he focused on sculpture. Interestingly, Kay’s early inspirations in the motorcycle world were Evil Knievel and Mad Max, fueling his desire to ride. He cherishes his first custom-built motorcycle, a BMW R80/7, along with a Triumph Tiger Cub from the year he was born. Additionally, he enjoys some off-road fun with his Sur-Ron.

“I have the first custom I built, a BMW R80/7, and a Triumph Tiger Cub from the year I was born. Although he didn’t start riding until his early 20s, his love for motorcycles has only grown. The Ducati Monster was his first, cherished ride until it unfortunately got stolen. Since then, he’s been enjoying the experience of riding a Zero FXS for the past 4 years, finding it to be a fantastic city motorcycle.

When I asked Kay about his favorite bike, he pointed to the DTP, which stands out significantly from most e-motorcycles. He deliberately avoided the conventional petrol bike appearance and opted against adding a fake “petrol tank” to the e-motorcycle, considering it unnecessary due to its electric nature.

Do you have a bike that you are never going to sell?

• My first custom BMW I made just for fun for myself before I got into doing bikes for other people.

What is your inspiration?

• I’m definitely going down the e-motorcycle route more and more. My inspiration is clean air in urban areas.

Do you create other things apart from motorcycles?

• I used to make art before motorcycles however I think some motorcycles are art so I’m doing both. Tell us something that you thought was especially fun to be a part of Riding to Wheels and Waves with friends across France and taking part in the Punks Peak race.

What’s shaking for 2023?

• Turning DTP into a production-ready motorcycle. I want to make 10 to start with and see what happens next.”
