Cake Motorcycles, a Swedish electric motorcycle company, has declared bankruptcy in its headquarters in Stockholm.

The company was established in 2016 and the distinctive electric vehicle brand has developed a variety of rechargeable models suitable for both off-road and on-road adventures. Cake 0 Emission AB announced its insolvency on Thursday, 1 February, and has since halted sales until further notice.

Cake had been seen as having relative success in the market. In the latter part of January 2024, the company started delivering Limited Edition versions of their minimalist Bukk street-legal enduro, and also secured a new distribution agreement in the Czech Republic.

The brand has accomplished several global firsts in electric mobility, including the first successful, unaided journey across Africa on a battery-powered bike. Sinje Gottwald completed her record-setting journey in February 2023, arriving in Cape Town after 124 days of travel across the continent.

After this achievement, Cake sponsored Jackie Rosenstein and Bobbie Long on a 3333-mile journey across the U.S, earning them the honor of being the first women to traverse the country on an electric motorcycle.

A representative in the UK has said that the business will persist during the current review phase of the bankruptcy proceedings, with prospects for future investment. The brand’s exact future remains uncertain at this point.
