Unveiling Scoozy Mobility Scooters

Job van de Kieft, the founder, once clinched the world championship in solar racing with Nuna, a solar racing car from the Nuon Solar Team in Delft. This success sparked a desire for more, and in no time, Job established a company and assembled a top-notch team with Jan Willem van Gent.

The Journey to Electric Mobility

After the Australian solar race, Job dedicated his efforts to the development of electric vehicles. In 2014, he decided to venture into business and establish an innovative company. He explored the electric vehicle market and discovered a niche that had been utilizing electric vehicles for over 40 years; the mobility scooter market. “Electric mobility really means independence for this group of users. But it is precisely this market that hasn’t been updated for 40 years, “ Job observes.

An eye-opener for me, especially because this vehicle has 2 major problems. First, they are experienced as being very stigmatizing, so that people sometimes prefer to stay at home rather than being seen on a scooter. Secondly, mobility scooters are unsafe. I felt that with my ideas, background and network I could make the difference and saw a huge opportunity. Scoozy: the ‘Tesla’ among the mobility scooters.

In 2016, he reunited with his former colleague and current partner, Jan Willem van Gent, a world champion with Nuna5. This marked the beginning of an exhilarating journey. The concept of Scoozy was developed and refined. In 2016, Scoozy B.V. was officially established. Scoozy was further enhanced, and the necessary funding was secured. The first prototype was unveiled at the start of 2017, garnering positive reviews from the press and media.

The Tesla Approach

Soon, requests for test drives started pouring in. Following the test drives, pre-orders were opened, mirroring Tesla’s strategy. This proved to be a shrewd move; the waiting list for the first series filled up quickly. This was a positive indication for Job and Jan Willem to continue with their innovation. Their efforts were recognized by the innovation sector, and Scoozy won numerous awards with its prototype and vision.

Partnering for Success

Scoozy collaborates with several partners who are leaders in their respective fields. A Shared Smart Factory in Emmen was identified for Scoozy’s production. Technologies Added provides a production line typically reserved for major players in the automotive industry. Now, it is also available to start-ups, facilitating rapid scaling.
