The Electric Evolution of Off-Road Mobility

Electric motorcycles have significantly transformed the global mobility landscape, offering more than just practicality and efficiency. In recent years, the off-road enthusiast market has witnessed the emergence of electric dirtbikes, showcasing the thrilling side of e-motos. One notable player in this arena is Electro & Company, introducing the YZ-EMX, a bolt-on electric conversion kit designed for Yamaha YZ-F dirtbikes manufactured from 2018 onwards.

Unleashing Power: YZ-EMX Technical Features

The YZ-EMX is equipped with a robust electric powertrain that ensures a performance comparable to a 450cc four-stroke gas bike. The heart of this conversion kit is a substantial 5.7-kilowatt-hour aluminum battery pack, strategically placed in the space formerly occupied by the gas engine. Power is efficiently delivered to a compact mid-mounted motor located at the bottom of the frame, generating an impressive 35 kilowatts (47 horsepower) from a standstill and peaking at 50 kilowatts (67 horsepower).

Intelligent Control: TruMoto Zapper Controller

To manage this powerhouse, Electro & Company incorporates the TruMoto Zapper controller. This user-friendly controller, compatible with iOS and Android apps, facilitates easy adjustment of various settings. Whether navigating a local MX track or embarking on a woodland adventure, riders can fine-tune the bike’s performance through their smartphones, ensuring optimal performance across different terrains.

The Yamaha Advantage: YZ-F Series Integration

The YZ-EMX stands out by utilizing the proven Yamaha YZ-F series platform. Recognized for its lightweight and nimble design, the YZ-F series provides an ideal foundation for the conversion kit. Electro & Company incorporates essential design elements, including 5052 and 6061 ladder frame mounts, maintaining optimum rigidity and flexibility while keeping the entire setup lightweight. The result is a bike with a balanced weight distribution of 47 percent upfront and 53 percent at the rear, weighing in at a mere 242 pounds.

Seamless Installation: The Bolt-On Experience

Purchasing Electro & Company’s YZ-EMX kit promises a straightforward bolt-on installation. The package includes all necessary brackets, mounts, and hardware for a perfect fit. While the kit comes with a $4,999 price tag, it’s crucial to note that users must provide their own Yamaha YZ for the conversion. For those less familiar with bike modifications, professional installation is recommended. The YZ-EMX kit is anticipated to be available by mid-December, with shipments expected to commence in January 2024.
