The Ryvid Outset Launches

Southern California-based manufacturer Ryvid has introduced its second model, the Ryvid Outset, priced at just $5,995. This new model is set to become the most affordable highway-capable electric motorcycle in the US.

Significant Price Drop for Ryvid Anthem

Alongside the launch, Ryvid announced a significant price drop for its first model, the Ryvid Anthem. Now priced at $6,495, the Anthem benefits from the company’s move to a larger production facility in San Bernadino, California.

Dual-Purpose Design of the Outset

The Anthem, which has been popular as a commuter motorcycle since deliveries began late last year, is now joined by the Outset. The Outset is designed as a dual-purpose bike, suitable for both commuting and weekend off-roading.

Features and Specifications

Ryvid describes the Outset as a “scrambler-style” option for those looking for an electric motorcycle capable of handling various terrains. Sharing key components with the Anthem, riders have the unique opportunity to convert one model into the other based on their needs.

Both the Anthem and Outset feature a folded metal frame that weighs just 12 lb (5 kg) and use a 72V system with a 4.3 kWh removable battery. Depending on speed and terrain, the range in Eco mode is around 70 miles (120 km) per charge. The lightweight design allows for easy battery removal and charging, whether in an apartment or on the bike itself.

Performance Details

The Outset’s motor delivers 10 hp continuous and 20 hp peak (7 and 14 kW), with 53 ft-lb of torque (72 Nm), and a top speed of over 75 mph (120 km/h). It also includes regenerative braking and a reverse gear.

Differentiating Features

Sharing much of its design with the Anthem, the Outset is differentiated by features like a 33-inch seat height, different headlight design, mirrors, wider handlebar, seat unit, and suspension. The upright riding position necessitates repositioned footpegs and a longer kickstand. By eliminating some features like the adjustable seat mechanism and reducing body panels, Ryvid has been able to offer the Outset at a lower price.

Cost Reduction Strategies

Originally priced at $8,995, the Anthem’s new price of $6,495 was achieved through several initiatives, including moving to a larger production facility and negotiating better supplier costs. This move allows Ryvid to offer competitive pricing against both EVs and traditional ICE vehicles.

CEO’s Explanation

Ryvid’s Founder and CEO Dong Tran explained that the cost reduction is thanks to several factors. “From Ryvid’s inception, our primary goal has been to provide the most accessible light electric vehicle to a broad audience. In order to disrupt the light electric mobility sector, it was essential to not only innovate our products but also our value proposition,” said Tran. “Creating a new generation of two-wheel electric adopters meant competing effectively on the specification-versus-price ratio against both existing EVs and traditional ICE vehicles. Achieving competitive pricing would be challenging until we could execute several key post-launch initiatives.”

A new San Bernadino production facility was recently brought online to expand the company’s manufacturing capabilities. The company has since been able to increase its production rate and thus negotiate better costs from suppliers. Now, with multiple models built on the same platform, Ryvid has been able to simplify its supply chain further with as many shared components as possible.

“Our team has focused on reaching these objectives over the past two years,” Tran continued. “Their relentless efforts have reached a milestone with the Ryvid Anthem. Available now, it will sell for $6,495, setting a new benchmark as one of the world’s most affordable electric motorcycles, based on specification.”

Incentives for Recent Owners

For Anthem owners who recently purchased the bike for the higher price ahead of Ryvid’s steep price drop, the company is said to be offering financial incentives as well as the option of a steep discount on a battery-less Outset, as the owners would be able to run both bikes off of their single battery.
