SAIC Motor-owned MG is now accepting reservations for its highly anticipated electric roadster, the MG Cyberster, in China. This electric sports car unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show two years ago, has garnered attention for its promised performance and innovation.

Model Variants and Features

The MG Cyberster lineup comprises three distinct versions, including two single-motor models and a top-tier dual-motor variant. These variants offer an impressive balance between speed and endurance. Notably, the dual-motor version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, while one of the single-motor models boasts an impressive CLTC range of up to 580 km.

Reservation Details

Potential buyers in China can secure their place in line by making a pre-order payment of RMB 10,000 (€1,280). This not only secures their reservation but also grants them priority delivery and a package valued at RMB 20,000 (€2,550). However, MG is keeping pricing details confidential at this time.

Innovative Design

Built on the innovative MG “cyber-cube” platform, the Cyberster boasts a modern and sleek design. Its dimensions include a length of 4,535 mm, a width of 1,913 mm, a height of 1,329 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,690 mm, giving it a contemporary silhouette.

Powertrain Specifications

Powering the single-motor versions are rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors, with peak motor power ranging from 231 kW to 250 kW. The dual-motor model, on the other hand, is equipped with two permanent magnet synchronous motors, offering peak powers of 150 kW and 250 kW, and a top speed of 200 km/h. These electric vehicles are powered by ternary lithium-ion batteries, supplied by a joint venture between SAIC and CATL.

Expected Availability

While MG has not disclosed the official sale date, local media speculates that it will be available in the fourth quarter of this year. International markets, including the UK, can also anticipate its overseas debut in 2024.

MG’s Growing Presence

Originating from Shanghai under the SAIC Motor Corporation, the MG brand has solidified its place in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) catalog of approved models for sale, reinforcing its imminent arrival in the automotive market.
