Unveiling the Cybertruck

In a recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, who appeared half-dressed as the “wizard of Australia,” delved into details about the highly-anticipated Cybertruck. Musk, with a cigar in one hand and a glass of bourbon in the other, discussed the electric pickup truck for the first half-hour of the show, revealing insights about its production challenges and goals.

Production Challenges and Targets

Musk emphasized the difficulty of manufacturing the Cybertruck and the project’s complexity. Tesla aims to produce approximately 200,000 Cybertrucks annually during volume production, a figure slightly below Musk’s previous estimate. Earlier, he had stated that Tesla could potentially sell between 250,000 to 500,000 Cybertrucks annually once production reaches full capacity. The company plans to initiate volume production sometime in 2024.

The Weight of the Cybertruck

When Joe Rogan inquired about the Cybertruck’s weight, Musk provided details. The truck’s weight depends on its configuration, but it falls in the range of 6,000 to 7,000 pounds. This places it in a similar weight class as the Ford F-250 heavy-duty truck, aligning with information found in the NHTSA’s 2024 Model Year VIN Decoder.

Impressive Acceleration

Despite its considerable weight, the Cybertruck boasts impressive acceleration. Musk corrected Rogan’s statement that the 0-60 mph time was around 3.5 seconds, stating that Tesla is aiming to achieve a sub-3-second time for the “Beast Mode” version of the vehicle. However, he didn’t provide further details, promising more information during the upcoming November 30 launch event.

The sub-3-second 0-60 mph time is likely associated with the performance variant of the Cybertruck, which is expected to feature a tri-motor powertrain. Musk previously described the performance Cybertruck as “next-level” and “kick[ing] ass.”
